Meal Delivery HAF Programmes in Glasgow

What is the HAF Programme?

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is a government-funded initiative that’s all about providing free meals and some exciting activities to kids from low-income households during the school holidays. Organised through your local council and funded by the Department for Education, the programme brings together healthy eating with some physical activity, creative workshops and educational experiences so that kids can have somewhere safe, stimulating and nourishing to be during the school holidays.

The programme supports kids aged between 4-16 and Reception through Year 11 and, in some areas, provision is also available for kids with special educational needs, those in care or who are simply identified as vulnerable.

Who's eligible for HAF and how to access it in Glasgow

If you are a family on benefits-related free school meals, you’re likely to be eligible for HAF provision. Your child’s school or Council can confirm that for you and, if you qualify, you may be issued a HAF code or voucher that’ll get your child a free place.

If you’re a school, club or community provider, we’re more than happy to discuss how our meal delivery service into your HAF delivery programme. Just give us a call on 0141 773 3226 today.

How Schools Access HAF Funding

Schools and providers apply for HAF funding through their local authority. The council then distributes grants from the Department for Education. To qualify, programmes have to meet certain criteria like running activities for at least four hours a day, four days a week. And they also have to show that they can provide healthy food, some enriching activities and a bit of nutritional education across the holiday periods.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Applications go through your council’s HAF coordinator or their providers’ portal
  • Funding is usually around £25 per eligible child, per day that covers food, staffing and activities
  • The programme supports kids aged 5-16, with a focus on healthy meals and getting the kids active and engaged
  • If your school can’t apply directly, you might be able to partner with your local council, a community group or a provider like ICare to deliver on your behalf
