HAF Programme Meal Delivery in Cheshire

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme is a government-funded initiative that provides eligible children and young people with access to healthy meals and engaging activities in the school holidays.

Funded by the Department for Education and delivered locally through Cheshire City Council, the programme aims to support children’s health and wellbeing by providing nutritious meals alongside engaging physical activities, including sports, arts and crafts.

The programme is open to children between 4 and 16 during school holidays who are eligible for free school meals. Many local authorities also extend this further to children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) or children in care or vulnerable young people.

HAF sessions typically run for around 4 hours a day during the school holidays, allowing a safe and supportive environment where children can enjoy a range of activities to help them stay active.

The HAF Programme offers up to 16 free sessions per child annually.

For families

This programme is open to children whose families receive benefits-related free school meals. To find out if you qualify, get in touch with your child’s school or your nearest Council. If you’re eligible, we can also help you book your child a place on a holiday activity near you.

Funding for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme is provided through the local authorities, Schools, Charities, community groups and activity providers can apply by putting in an application through your local Council or teaming up with one of our approved partners to make it happen.

To qualify for the funding, you’ll need to:

• Organise fun activities for eligible children during the school holidays
• Include activities that are engaging, educational and encourage physical activity
• Provide nutritious meals that meet the required nutritional standards
• Promote healthy eating and food education

• Applications usually go through the local authority’s HAF coordinator or online portal
